The Rabbi spoke with his opponents and said, "What do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, 'Son, go work today in the vineyard.' The son answered, 'I will not'; but afterward he regretted it and went. The man came to his second son and said the same thing; and the second son answered, 'I will, sir'; but he did not go.  Which of the two did the will of his father?"

His opponents responded and said, "The first."

The Rabbi said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will precede you into the kingdom of G-d.  For Yochanan ben Zecharias came to you and testified about the way of tzedakah and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him.  And even after you saw this, you did not relent afterward and believe him."

This is the teaching of the Rabbi.
